Duke Snider smashed 3 home runs and had 6 RBI as the North Fork Riflemen
defeated the maadi nomads II by the score of 9 to 7 at Rogers Centre
Snider was unconscious out there. While maadi pitching was serving softballs
up there for him to hit, the maadi fans were serving up some hardball barbs
when he entered the batter’s box. But he just used it as fuel for the fire.
He lofted a three-run ‘big-fly’ in the 1st inning, smashed a bases-empty
‘big-fly’ in the 3rd inning, ripped a solo home run (his 28th of the season)
in the 6th inning and doubled scoring a run in the 9th inning. North Fork
and maadi each finished the afternoon with 14 hits.
The win went to Tom Seaver(12-11) who allowed 7 runs in 8 innings. Seaver got
relief help from Ray Narleski who gained credit for his 11th save. David
Wells(8-8) was the losing pitcher. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 5
and 1/3 innings of work.
‘They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,’ Snider said ‘next
time I’m sure they’ll pitch me tougher.’
Chris Carpenter(20-7) had a rough outing, but still came away with the win.
He gave up 10 hits and 7 walks in 6 innings and allowed 2 gopher balls. The
N.Glengarry bats were silent in the 9th.
Carpenter was helped out by Rivera who recorded his 30th save. The loss was
charged to Max Scherzer(9-8). He gave up 5 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings of
‘I didn’t have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,’ Carpenter
said, ‘this was one of those times.’
Back to the ’90s
Little Big Horn was unable to claim the lead after Blazing went ahead in the
top of the 4th inning when they scored 3 runs on 3 hits. Blazing finished
with 11 hits in the victory.
Clemens(20-13) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Doug
Drabek(6-14) was the loser. He pitched 6 innings giving up 8 hits and no
Alfonso Soriano ripped 2 home runs and had 3 RBI as the Quebec Patriots
defeated the Bye For Now 7 by the score of 5 to 3 at US Cellular Field
Soriano had a good day at the plate. He cleared the fences for a two-run home
run in the 2nd inning and smashed a bases-empty ‘big-fly’ (his 5th of the
season) in the 5th inning. Quebec won despite being out-hit by Bye 11 hits
Ian Snell(3-1) went 8 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Francisco Cordero
recorded the save, his 1st. Matt Cain(1-3) was the loser. He was touched
for 4 homeruns in his 8 innings of work.
