impressive total of 16 strikeouts as the Mountain Mudpuppies beat the
Edmonton Storm by a score of 9 to 2.
Gibson(18-12) put on a good performance. He didn’t allow much, just 10 hits
and no walks in 9 innings and was touched for 2 home runs. Mountain banged
out 15 hits on the afternoon.
The losing pitcher was Geoff Zahn(13-12). He was knocked around by Mountain,
allowing 10 hits and 4 walks in 4 innings. Edmonton was impressed with
Gibson and his 16 strikeouts. ‘It’s tough to generate runs if you can’t make
contact with the ball.’
Colby Lewis had a strong outing as the Texas Rangers defeated the Chicago
Brawlers by a score of 6 to 3 at Camden Yards
Texas brought 3 runs across the plate in the 3rd inning when they had 3 base
hits. It was enough to earn the victory. For the game Texas out-hit Chicago
11 to 7.
The victory went to Lewis(14-14) who went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs. Neftali
Feliz earned the save, his 20th. Carlos Silva(9-10) was given the loss.

Pedro Martinez struck out 12 batters and John Mabry lofted one into the ‘cheap
seats’ and had 2 RBI as the Chicago Rockets defeated the North Shore Whales
by a score of 12 to 6 at Three Rivers Stdm
Martinez(20-10) pitched a solid game. He went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 8
hits and 5 walks and surrendered 2 ’round-trippers’. Chicago finished with
11 hits in the victory.
Tim Belcher(3-11) suffered the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 7 hits
and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance
of Martinez – except North Shore. Don Ho lamented, ‘He just was ‘on’ this
afternoon. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a
good strikeout pitcher – makes it a fun game for the hometown fans –
unfortunately we were the visitors!’
Jacob Cruz had 2 base hits and 4 RBI at Shea Stadium as the Shukokai
Shelleys belted the Happy Jacks 5th Hammer by the count of 14 to 4.
Bartolo Colon(15-7) pitched well enough to earn the win. He went 5 innings
surrendering 5 hits and 2 walks. Shukokai ended up with 17 hits for the game
while Happy Jacks had 9.
Colon got relief help from Steve Karsay who gained credit for his 9th save.
Al Leiter(7-13) was given the loss. He struggled with his control issuing 7
walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
With this win, Shukokai has a division leading 64-50 record. They have been
6-4 lately. With this loss, Happy Jacks has a 6-4 record of late, 50-64
