Dazzy Vance reeled off a total of 15 strikeouts as the Cabin Fever defeated
the Criminal Misconceptions by the score of 8 to 2 at Shibe Park (NL)
Vance(13-8) was in control of the game from the outset. He allowed just 6
hits and 5 walks in 9 innings. Cabin had 13 hits for the afternoon.
Eddie Plank(8-12) absorbed the loss. He served up 3 home runs in his 7 and 1/3
innings. Vance was asked about his big strikeout performance, ‘Well, it’s a
little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road – instead of cheers and
a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just
strange – but it’s nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.’
Designated hitter Adam Dunn cracked 3 home runs and had 4 RBI as the Riff
Randalls topped the JC Can’t Hit A Curve Ball by a score of 9 to 3 at SAFECO
Dunn provided much of the offense. He lofted a solo-blast ‘downtown’ in the
1st inning, ripped a solo home run in the 4th inning and lifted one out of
the park for a two run home run (his 20th of the season) in the 7th inning.
Riff ended up with 13 hits for the game while JC Can’t Hit had 6.
‘It’s almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,’ Dunn said. ‘Whenever I
would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.’
Back to the ’90s
Moises Alou smashed 2 home runs and had 3 RBI and Kevin Gross tossed a shutout
at Candlestick Park where the Neeever Surrender beat the Cooperstown
Legends 6 to 0.
The Cooperstown fans didn’t appreciate the big day Alou had. He delivered a
solo blast in the 2nd inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 21st of the
season) in the 5th inning. Neeever managed 10 hits in their victory.
Gross(2-0) was credited with the shutout. Danny Darwin(8-1) ended up with the
loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.
Matt Williams blasted 2 home runs and had 3 RBI at The Skydome where the
#sunrise hangovers beat the Happy Jacks 5th Hammer 6 to 3.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Williams. He lifted one out of the park for a two run home run
in the 1st inning, delivered a single in the 6th inning and lofted a
solo-blast ‘downtown’ (his 16th of the season) in the 8th inning. Happy
Jacks had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
The victory was credited to Kevin Brown(10-7) who went 8 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. Derek Lowe recorded the save, his 13th. Shane
Reynolds(5-10) was given the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 7
and 2/3 innings of work.
