Delino Deshields hit for the cycle and had 2 RBI and Steve Carlton reeled off
a total of 10 strikeouts as the Peckerwood Whipmeisters clobbered the
outmatched inept Kalona CREEPERS, 23 to 2.
Deshields provided much of the offense. He tripled in the 2nd inning, tripled
in the 4th inning, lined a one-base hit in the 5th inning, doubled resulting
in a run in the 6th inning and ripped a solo home run (his 6th of the season)
in the 8th inning. Peckerwood kept the scorekeepers busy in the 5th inning
with 9 runs on 9 hits, the 6th inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits and the
7th inning plating 4 runs. The Peckerwood offense poured it on, scoring in 7
of the 9 innings.
Carlton(22-10) allowed 2 runs on the game. Hugh McQuillan(1-5) absorbed the
loss. He allowed Peckerwood 5 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings of work. Carlton
didn’t realize how many strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 10 he
was obviously surprised, ‘No kidding? Man, I knew that I had decent total,
but I didn’t think I had K’d that many. Say, that’s pretty good, isn’t it?’
Ricky Romero reeled off a total of 11 strikeouts at Minute Maid Park as
the Winning Inc. beat the Lazy Slackers in 11 innings 6 to 5.
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Winning won the
game in the 11th inning. After two outs Justin Morneau doubled. Troy
Tulowitzki followed and he laced a base-knock scoring the run. Winning
rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon.
Romero(20-13) got the win allowing 5 runs in 10 innings. Kerry Wood earned his
27th save. Matt Thornton(3-13) was tagged with the loss in relief. He
surrendered 1 run and 2 hits in 3 and 1/3 innings.
Romero was humble when questioned about his performance, ‘Well, I felt pretty
confident in my pitches this afternoon. But, I had great support behind me
and I just threw what was called. That was an extremely well called game!’
Back to the ’90s
Andy Ashby whitewashed Dtown as the Tar Heels outscored the hopeless Dtown
AssClowns90’s 1 to 0.
Ashby(11-9) put on a good performance. He allowed just 5 hits and 3 walks in
9 innings. Tar had only 4 hits for the game.
The losing pitcher was Bob Welch(9-12). Tar now has a record of 56-91. Dtown
has a record of 54-93 after the loss.
Johnny Damon left the yard and had 5 RBI as the #sunrise hangovers defeated
the Carlisle Roidragers 3 by the score of 13 to 8 at The Skydome
Damon provided much of the offense. He doubled in the 2nd inning, doubled
scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning and blasted a two-run home run (his
1st of the season) in the 7th inning. #sunrise had 16 hits for the afternoon
while Carlisle had 11.
The win went to Derek Lowe(1-1) who allowed no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings. John
Frascatore(1-1) was given the loss in relief. ‘I didn’t feel that good when
I came to the park today,’ Damon said. ‘I’m glad I decided to play!’
