Center fielder Marquis Grissom had 3 base hits and J.R. Richard allowed only 1
hit resulting in a big goose egg on the scoreboard for Darth at Griffith
Stadium as the Barco Loungers beat the Darth Vader by the count of 4 to
Richard(20-12) simply dominated Darth. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 1 hit and 5 walks in 9 innings. The pitchers took over after the 4th
inning as neither team was able to score again.
Jack Sanford(13-15) was the loser. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits
and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
Travis Wood whiffed 12 batters at Rogers Centre where the St. Louis
Redbirds beat the Penetang Kings 7 to 1.
Wood(10-8) was in control of the game from the outset. He allowed just 7 hits
and 1 walk in 9 innings. St. Louis banged out 12 hits on the afternoon.
The loss was charged to Homer Bailey(2-4). He allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 6
innings. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Wood – except Penetang.
Ken Finney lamented, ‘He just was ‘on’ this afternoon. He was keeping our
guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher – makes
it a fun game for the hometown fans – unfortunately we were the visitors!’
Back to the ’90s
Catcher Matt Nokes cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Oh No It’s The
Divas! outscored the The GM Who Had Too Much Coffee 12 to 8.
Nokes provided much of the offense. He delivered a solo blast in the 5th
inning and belted a three-run homer (his 15th of the season) in the 7th
inning. Overall Oh No It’s The out-hit The GM Who Had 17 to 11.
